Great ShakeOut 2025: Are You Ready?
The Great ShakeOut is an annual earthquake preparedness drill that takes place around the world. The purpose of the ShakeOut is to remind people what to do in the event of an earthquake and to practice those actions so that they become automatic.
The Great ShakeOut 2025 will be held on October 16, 2025, at 10:16 a.m. local time. Millions of people will participate in drills at schools, businesses, homes, and other locations. During the drill, participants practice the "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" technique:
- Drop to your knees.
- Cover your head and neck with one arm and hand while getting under a sturdy table or desk if possible.
- Hold On to your shelter until the shaking stops.
