Business Intelligence Developer Job Description

Business intelligence developers (BI developers) turn raw data into actionable insights that drive strategic decision making. They work closely with individuals across the organization to understand business needs and translate them into effective data models and visualizations. A BI developer’s toolkit typically includes proficiency in SQL, data warehousing technologies, and popular BI platforms such as Tableau or Power BI. They must be skilled at optimizing query performance and creating user-friendly dashboards that distill complex data into easily digestible formats. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail are essential, as is the ability to communicate technical concepts to nontechnical audiences. Most BI developers hold a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, with three to five years of experience in data analysis.
